Posted on 12 Jun'14 Tags: , , in Canada and US Immigration, Working in Canada

Starting May 1, 2014 Citizenship and Immigration Canada has started accepting applications under Federal Skilled Workers Program (FSWP) with new caps for the program and increase in the list of eligible occupations from 24 to 50. Each occupation has a sub-cap of 1,000. The cap would not apply to applicants who have valid job offers from Canadian employers with Labour Market Opinions.

The applicants who attain at least 67 points on the immigration selections factors may be eligible to apply for permanent residence in Canada. The six selection factors are:

  • English and/or French language skills
  • Education
  • Work experience
  • Age
  • Arranged employment
  • Adaptability – includes points for study and work experience in Canada, language ability of spouse or partner and relative in Canada

Other requirements include sufficient settlement funds for the applicant and their dependants, medical examinations and security clearance.
